RETURN Voice Digitization

Adaptive Transform Coding (ATC)

ATC coding is a Low Bit Rate Voice (LBRV) algorithm designed for optimal operation at 16 KBPS. It is typically implemented into networks that have limited available bandwidth. This can be small North American Fractional T-1 networks, or International/Multinational networks, where bandwidth is not as readily available as within North America.

ATC (and its variants) is NOT STANDARDIZED. Use is usually limited to private networks. In a well-adjusted system, ATC algorithms may be suitable for up to 1 tandem call (e.g. 2 analog/digital conversions) without significant degradation.
